Balocco Ciambelle are classic ring-shaped Italian shortbread biscuits made with fresh Italian cream, butter and fresh eggs. The cream gives them a fuller, rounder flavour than a basic plain biscuit while retaining the crisp, dry texture associated with Italian breakfast frollini. In the UK, that combination works beyond breakfast as a coffee or tea accompaniment and gives delis and cafés a recognisably Italian alternative to standard shortbread or rich tea biscuits.
